The island of Ciovo is a Croatian island in Dalmatia, which is located on the Adriatic Sea.
It is not far from the second largest city in Croatia, Split, away and is about 15 kilometers long and in certain places up to 3,5 kilometers wide.

The highest point is 220 meters above sea level, from where you can enjoy a wonderful view of the whole island. The special highlight of the island is the pilgrimage church, which was built directly into the rock on the east side of the island. The island has a direct connection to the historic city of Trogir, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and should definitely be visited. The historic city wall is just one attraction that stands impressively in the landscape. Various churches are also waiting for the visitors. Some churches can even be visited from the inside.

Contested region in the 16th century

It wasn't always as peaceful as the villages are next to each other. In earlier centuries the region in Dalmatia was repeatedly the scene of battles for territories. The Mother of God Church on the seashore, for example, was built in the 16th century as a souvenir of the victory over Split built.

Beautiful beaches and hidden coves

The island particularly impresses with its beautiful beaches in hidden bays, where you can often enjoy the peace and solitude. The island is ideally located for excursions. The region offers countless cultural sights, nature and wonderful leisure opportunities that are suitable for the whole family and where there is something for everyone. Depending on your mood, you can visit the cultural legacies of earlier eras in the cooler morning hours and spend the hot hours of the day by and in the water in the afternoon.

Ideal combination between active and relaxing vacation

Another ideal combination of active and relaxing vacation is exploring the forests and mountains followed by an afternoon on the beach. There are over 20 kilometers of hiking trails on the island. Since there are no steep hills to climb, these can also be climbed with children. An alternative is an excursion with a bicycle, which can be rented on the island. Here, too, the bike excursion is also suitable for the children because it never goes up or down steeply. Many hiking trails lead through the cool forests and are a popular destination on hot days. Diving trips to the red rocks are also popular. The flora and fauna under water are particularly rich in species and colorful.

Boat trips to Trogir, Split and into the blue lagoon

Various ships leave the island at different times and invite you to go on a day trip on the water. Depending on the situation, you drive to a certain place on the mainland or you can be brought into bays that can only be reached by water. A wonderful day at the beach awaits you there in an idyllic setting.
