The name of the coastal town stands for its many forts, 13 of which are still preserved today and some can be visited. The forts date from the 15th and 16th centuries and were then built to defend against enemy attacks. The seven districts still bear the names of the respective forts and represent actual villages.

These villages grew up around the Kastela fortress and each has its own character. A visit to the individual districts is definitely worthwhile and you can literally feel the past times. In the west of the city there is the well-known Mujina cave. Archaeological excavations have been carried out there for years, and numerous tools and other witnesses from bygone times have come to light. Some of the utensils are an incredible 45 years old. So the area was populated very early.

Kastela benefits from its location protected by a mountain range and is thus well protected from strong temperature fluctuations and wind. Ideal for families who want to spend a quiet vacation. Numerous beaches invite visitors to spend a relaxing day by the water. Thanks to the proximity to the city, the beaches are easy to reach - a plus for families with children and lots of luggage.

In the coastal town of Kastela there are also countless churches and chapels, some of which are centuries old. Some of these can also be visited. In general, it can be said that the city has an extraordinarily large cultural offering and also has a lot to offer historically. Especially on mild summer nights it is incredibly nice to linger and relax between the old walls.
