The small municipality of Postira is located on the north side of Croatia's most popular and largest holiday island, Brač. Easy to reach from the Supetar ferry terminal, yet completely hidden between blue bays and the chirping, parched hinterland, Postira is a bit off the beaten track of the usual streams of tourists. Crooked, small alleys, a picturesque harbor and a sleepy atmosphere characterize the townscape of Postira - at least in the early season. According to Wikipedia, the small community has only 1.559 inhabitants. 1.559 residents who go about their business peacefully and quietly and hardly allow themselves to be seen or rushed.

Postira is a sleepy town and more for the quieter natures among you who like to spend the holiday with a good book on the rocks: swimming, reading, sleeping, eating well and Mediterranean and then maybe sleeping on the air mattress. We hadn't planned to do more and there's almost not much more that can be done in Postira. Except, of course, doing water sports or going on a bike tour in the heat. But after that we didn't. If you like it a little livelier, book your holiday in the town of Bol on the south side, which is a gem for surfing culture with the Golden Horn.

From the historic town center at the port, Postira stretches east and west along the coastline. While all the restaurants and sights are of course concentrated in the center, the local and privately rented accommodations are more on the outskirts. There is a church in Postira, three supermarkets, a beautiful harbor promenade and a few hidden cultural offerings that are not really obvious. At the end of May Postira is still asleep and the few tourists are well distributed on the island. So you're not on each other's skin and you still get really hot temperatures and bathing weather at this time of year. Overlooking the opposite mainland, Postira offers a beautiful spectacle in the evening, when the lights of the town of Omiš combine into golden strings of small pearls. So what more could you ask for? A guide to imitating maybe!
